CFP: 2015-16 MEMS Stammtisch

Matt Koval, Ph.D. student in the History Department, will be coordinating the MEMS “Stammtisch” Graduate Student Talks next academic year. Mead Bowen, who was going to do this, is heading to UCLA for further graduate work (bravo Mead!) and Matt agreed to take on the Stammtisch. Matt is working on the medieval history of childhood especially in eastern European regions, but his disciplinary interests are wide-ranging.

The MEMS “Stammtisch” has for about a decade provided a relaxed setting for graduate students to make brief (i.e. usually ca. 20-30 minute-long) presentations of their research to an interested interdisciplinary MEMS faculty/student audience, followed by discussion.  In the past, these graduate student-organized talks — apart from the main goal of rehearsing one’s research presentation skills — has helped MEMS students improve article manuscripts, rehearse future conference presentations, give additional structure/direction to parts of theses or dissertations in progress, etc.

Students, please be in touch with Matt (kovalmb1 at ufl.edu if you are interested in presenting some of your research in 2015-16!
